Maintenance of wooden butcher blocks and cutting boards.

Daily cleaning

  1. Scrape the wooden worktop with a blade scraper to remove food residues, without using abrasive brushes.
  2. Avoid aggressive products such as bleach, acids, or alcohol. Use a neutral detergent (e.g. dishwashing liquid) diluted in lukewarm water.
  3. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and allow it to air-dry.

Extraordinary Maintenance

  • Once a year, it is recommended to carry out a mechanical smoothing to prevent irreversible damage, and then apply oil to keep it moisturised.
  • Every 4-5 months, apply natural Vaseline oil to nourish the wood and preserve the fibres

Positioning and Storage

  • Avoid direct exposure to the sun or heat sources to avoid damaging the wood.
  • Do not place the wooden worktop  on unventilated surfaces such as walls or plastic materials, which impede natural transpiration.
  • Storage: store your butcher block in a place with a temperature of around 20-22°C and 65% humidity. Do not leave it unused for long periods.

Why is it important?

Wood is a natural and biodegradable material that needs care to remain functional and hygienic. Good maintenance ensures not only the long life of your wooden worktop, but also food safety by preventing the proliferation of bacteria.

  2. Use some detergent and rinse well with lukewarm water.

Extraordinary Maintenance

  • Once a year, it is recommended to carry out a mechanical smoothing to prevent permanent damage.
  • Do not use oxidising acids such as nitric or sulphuric acid, which can damage the material.

Placement and Storage

  • Avoid direct exposure to the sun.
  • Store in rooms with a temperature between +20°C and +23°C and 50% relative humidity to preserve its integrity.
  • Do not store products in environments with extreme temperature changes or in excessively cold places, such as refrigerating rooms.
